DWARF WILD FRED. One of the best-known dark-fruited varieties of the American Dwarf Tomato Project, bred by Bruce Bradshaw and introduced in 2010. Developed from a cross between New Big Dwarf and Carbon, it inherited from its parents large fruit size, rich coloration, and a bright, complex flavor. Today it is deservedly regarded as one of the finest purple tomatoes among the dwarf series. A mid-season determinate variety with a compact yet remarkably sturdy plant. In open-ground cultivation, plants usually reach 70-90 cm (28-35 in) in height, although under some growing conditions they may remain even shorter.

The stems are thick and easily support the weight of the large fruits. The foliage is potato-leaf type, dark green and dense, providing excellent protection against sunscald. The variety is noted for its consistently high productivity. Each truss produces 3-5 large tomatoes. The average fruit weight ranges from 140-270 g, but with good care fruits easily reach 300 g or more. The largest tomatoes may weigh up to 350 g. The fruits display a rich reddish-purple color with a characteristic green area around the stem, which is a natural varietal feature rather than a sign of immaturity.

This distinctive characteristic is typical of many premium dark-fruited tomatoes and highlights their authenticity. The skin is thin but sufficiently strong. Fruits are flattened-round, sometimes with slight ribbing near the stem. They rarely crack, retain their attractive appearance, and hold their shape well. When sliced, they reveal an exceptionally beautiful, dense, meaty flesh in deep crimson-red and purple shades, with small seed cavities and an abundance of richly flavored juice.
