JUSTINE. A variety believed to originate in the USA, although its exact history remains unknown. It is a mid-season, tall, and high-yielding tomato cultivar with uniquely shaped fruits resembling a bomb or artillery shell. In open ground, plants reach a height of 1.5 to 1.8 m. The fruits are large, weighing between 150 and 300 grams, and resemble plums in appearance but have a more massive, swollen heart-like shape. The flesh is dense, meaty, dark pink in color, with very few seeds and minimal juice. Despite its firm texture, the flavor remains rich, slightly sweet, with subtle fruity notes — rated 5 out of 5 in taste tests.
This variety is ideal for processing: tomato paste, sauces, coulis, or whole-fruit canning. It also performs well in fresh salads due to its excellent taste and texture. The Justine tomato has been cultivated for over 6 years and has earned popularity among gardeners for its stable yields, resilience, and distinct fruit appearance. There is also a variant known as "Justine Heart" — a presumed hybrid with a heart-shaped tomato, discovered by Tatyana Kushnareva. It features an even more pronounced heart shape and possibly different flavor characteristics.
